Keystone Library Project
Students were assigned partners and tasked with transforming an old abbonded warehouse into a library. Students had more freedom during this project, as they did not have to follow many regulations and did not have to conform to a clients needs. The students were to design every aspect of the library's interior. The only things that were needed in the library were offices, a main circulation desk, stairs, an elevator, two lounges, restrooms, a front door overhang, and a green roof. On the first floor of our library my partner and I added computer desks, two lounges, two offices, a staff workroom, a meeting room, two restrooms, and many shelves of books. Large windows were added to increase natural lighting. On the second floor there is two bathrooms, a lounge, many bookshelves and a green roof. The green roof features a walking path and many benches to sit and read on. Large windows were added again to increase natural lighting. Below are the final drawings of the Keystone Library.
During this project students also had to calculate beam design and loads to determine if the library was safe for use. Below are the calculations for the library.
